The Beginning of a New Tradition

On Sunday, August 12, 2012, the Goddard family started a new tradition.  With the family getting so large we struggled with how to celebrate family birthdays.  Kristi and Monique spearheaded a tradition of celebrating everyone's birthday on a day during the summer.  For the first party we picked a Hawaiian theme.  We started with a dinner of teriyaki chicken bowls, fruit and vegetable kabobs, island fruit with a watermelon from Jeff's garden, hawaiian macaroni salad, key lime pie and of course Hawaiian punch.  Then every family had a game for everyone to play.  We did the Maori stick game, a fun hula dance, limbo, and some fun games with beach balls.  We drew names and everyone got a birthday present to end the fun.

Great Grandpa Jones even joined in the fun.

Jeff and Mo proudly show off the watermelon they grew in their garden.  We all accused them of lying.  We didn't believe they had really grown it.

We used the occasion to take a four generation picture.
Brendon 7 months, Papa G, 61 Great Grandpa Jones 77, and dad Mark 32.
Our dad Richard has always had the gift to make a game out of anything.  He came up with this one where everyone was waiting for the four beach balls to come off the roof and then they had to hit them and keep them off the ground using only their heads.  It was a hit.

Inspired by the olympics, grandpa started the kids doing the high jump.  I tried to take pictures and they came out pretty unique.  The high jumper looks like a ghost.  The kids thought that was pretty cool.

It's getting dark and they are still at it.
