4th of July 2012

Even though Rachelle and Richard slept over at our house the night before the 4th, I hadn't seen them in the morning because I woke up early and decided to walk up to State Street.  So it was a big surprise when Rachelle and Richard showed up just before the parade started and we were both wearing the same shirt.  I think Shell was more embarrassed than I was, but we both laughed along with everyone else.
We love the 4th of July!  It is a day packed from early morning to late at night.  This year was the best because everyone came....Dad, Shauna and her kids, Steve and Tristen and kids, and DeWayne and Kari came this year for the first time.  It was a Jones family day!

Good friends Janie and Sean Moysh joined us too!

We started off with the parade and lots of candy, then it was off to the park for BBQ hamburgers and games.  Next we cooled off at Seven Peaks, had pizza for dinner and back to the park for the concert and fireworks.

It was a great day to just chill with family and be grateful to live in the United States of America!

While Richard was gone......

What did I do while Richard was at scout camp?  On Monday, I went to dinner and a movie with my good friend Janie.  On Tuesday, I went to McDonald's and played with Brighton and Eden while the rest of the family went boating.  Then later that night I went to dinner with my good friend Julie Hatch.  After dinner I headed down to Rachelle and Richard's for a sleep-over and Wednesday we set up Rachelle's classroom and covered some bulletin boards.  Thursday, I went hiking with my dad.  We went up Provo Canyon, past Sundance Resort and Aspen Grove to a hike on the back side of Mount Timpanogos.  The wild flowers were at their peak and at several places we could see 5 waterfalls. It was very beautiful.  Friday, I went shopping.  Who designs the clothes now days? Really.. It's impossible to find anything that has sleeves and I for one am sick of always having to wear two shirts.  It was a packed week and any spare time, usually late at night, was spent preparing for my gospel doctrine lesson.  I have to keep busy or it gets too lonely and I can't sleep when Richard is gone.  I was really glad when Richard finally came home.

I loved the beautiful moss and ferns.

Bishop Richard goes to scout camp!

Oh, Richard was giddy as he packed for scout camp.  He couldn't wait to leave Monday morning June 25th for a five day adventure in Vernal, Utah.  One of the first places they went was Fantasy Canyon.  It is similar to Goblin Valley with it's formations.  There's a bear, and a camel and ?  They stayed at a KOA in town.  Each night they retired an American Flag in an official ceremony that they invited others campers in the park to attend.  Their only disappointment was finding out that the river raft trip they thought was $39.00 was misquoted and it really was $139.00.  They had to cancel because the budget didn't cover that difference.

Real Soccer Game

I went to my first Real Soccer game on June 23rd.  Soooo, this section of the stadium was really into the game and had a base and snare drummer that played the same pattern the entire 90 minutes of the game.  Strange.  There was a section below them that everyone dresses in black and they had a flag with a skull and crossbones and a sign that said "Salt Lake's Finest."  They every so often lit a smoke bomb that engulfed their group.  Strange.  The game was pretty boring actually, but I enjoyed watching all the crazy people.

We went to the game to support Maddie Richard's soccer team who got some of the proceeds from the tickets she sold.  Boston was really cute.  When the game ended he immediately started gathering all the Subway cards he could.  We were all watching him scour every row and he came back with this pile of coupons just grinning.

The bad day continues.

We got home from camping in time for Richard to get ready and go to the stake father and sons camp with Jared and Jordan.  Because of the motorhome problems they decided to take the truck instead and sleep in a tent.  I think you can see from the pictures that the bad day continued with a flat on the truck tire.  The only problem was they could not get the spare tire to come all the way down.  And then once they got it part way down it wouldn't go back up.  Several people stopped to help and everyone gave up in defeat.  So after several rides up and back down the canyon Jared, Jordan, and Richard arrived back home at 10:00 p.m. starved.  They all went to Panda for a late night dinner.  Richard worried all night how he was going to get that truck down from the top of the mountain and fixed for scout camp on Monday.  The next morning after making many calls a solution was found and he and I and a spare tire we found out came off the truck of the Big O dealers truck went back up the canyon.  Our luck changed and everything worked perfectly to get the spare on, drive down the canyon and then Big O put on four new tires.  They even replaced the system that holds the spare tire.  Apparently in Utah because we use so much salt on our roads these systems corrode.  Chevy, there's a problem.  We're grateful for all the help from everyone to the tire dealer, the guest speaker who picked them up and Brother Karr who brought them home.
